The Lay out
*Genres of plenty tells you what kind of movie it is*
*Things that may bug you warned you of stuff that might make you wanna stay away, or at least be prepared*
*how much Christmas is the percentage of just how Christmasy the movie is a mid-level rating may just mean that the film happens at Christmas. A high rating leans towards Christmas being intricate to the plot or at the very least. It’s overall aesthetic.*
*What’s in the box is what the movie is about*
whats the flavor* My review

What flavor:
When I was young, there was a moral outcry against horror, movies, and in particular slasher movies. Shows like 2020 in entertainment tonight would run exposes on how violent and misogynistic the current crop of killers were they were draw comparisons between monsters of yesteryear and how those films didn’t need to pepper the running time with extreme, gore and nudity to be effective. Flashing forward to 2024 the gore in a Friday the 13th film doesn’t even come close to the other network television procedural and it’s certainly not something like The Walking Dead. My long winded point being sensibilities change the level of what is acceptable. what is too explicit to monstrous or edging towards pornographic, jumped quite a bit from 1980 to 2000 and has left even further from 2000 to now.
There are always outliers things that push the envelope further than anything else in its genre. Damien Leons Terrifier series is that envelope pusher writing a fine line of transgressive, brilliance and“Edge, lord“ button, pushing the adventures of art, the clown break every cinematic rule, but somehow continue to not only succeed commercially, but artistically, I mean, can you imagine being engaged for a two hour plus Friday the 13th movie? But somehow Terrifier two manage to put enough gory, Hijinx and interesting lore to Hartley fill out the running time.
And it’s not just in an accident, while I enjoyed the recent film stream it to broke a lot of the piecing and chronological slasher laws that the Terrifier films have, and fell on its own sword because of it. However, Terrifier three has a verbose running time, but doesn’t seem to drag it all this Christmas installment of this strange series Manages to handle it’s lengthy runtime even better than it’s immediate predecessor.
Like every single one of these, I left with more questions than answers, but given enough candy to be full, if not completely satiated. The violence is over the top. The gore facts are A+++ incredible. The world keeps growing, and with every glacier like move, I become more interested. But we are Terrifier really succeed is its final girl..
Lauren LaVera’s Sienna Shaw is the final girl trope on steroids this film in particular contains the heroine versus monster final brawl we had dreamt of when waiting outside theaters for Halloween ends. Art in Siena have a “they live” (In all but length of time) style elbow, throwing eye gouging Donnybrook that is completely satisfying and manages to end inconclusively but not of disappointing and truly making us want more. Speaking of art David Howard Thornton Betrayal of art, the clown fire transcends even the best of this franchise. He’s truly become a slasher icon and a next level splatter punk Joker who would cut his way through the pages of A rough house publishing gore splaterfest then a PG WB super hero snoorfest. He’s great. Elliott Fullam Makes a nicely nuanced return as Jonathan. Antonella Rose gives us a really good performance as as Gabbie Shaw. Presenting the right amount of charm, and fucking irritating to feel like a real life kid. Samantha Scaffidi as Victoria Heyes Who seems to be possessed by the amazing clown girl entity from Terrifier two. It’s a bit of a OneNote character but Samantha brings everything that could be brought to arts co-conspirator, she’s a bit of a ghost zombie, Harley Quinn, who’s cinematic role is to expound Expository nuances that our bloody Harpo Marx cannot. The rest of the cast is equally up to the task of being likable fodder.
The other thing I like about this series is the villains are fucking villains they’re not sympathetic, tragic, understandable, creatures, or comic book, like villains who’s popularity turns them into hot topic, style superheroes, there are no sabertooth here, there will be no face turns. These are fucking monsters. And despite their evil have managed to become quite a presence in the overall dark pop-culture landscape.
Despite its doing its best to make me not like it this series … I’m a bit fragile in my old age and some days I can only handle so much mayhem… This installment has cemented my fandom firmly in the terrifier fan club. I understand why folks don’t like it more than I understand why I do like it it’s the type of series that all I could think of is how much trouble I would’ve gotten if my grandmother walked into the room while Tiny and I were watching this in the 90s why It may seem like everything for everything sake, The one man band behind the series has something special and he’s making something special. I feel like the minute I’m able to crack the nut of just what is going on here. It may lose a little bit of the magic, but just like the populace who is unfortunate enough to live in the world of the second most evil clown in media…. no one or nothing last forever.
If I were to pick 2 things I didn’t like about this (these) movies,I the first would be it doesn’t always stick the landing when trying to balance the tone. The meanness often eclipse is the fun but I will say each entry has handled this problem better secondly, I’ve mentioned the time a lot and while I think it. is it by any stretch of the imagination of huge distraction I think Terrifier 2 and Contain a 88 minute masterpiece in there over two hour running time. I’ve heard, and somewhat agree with the argument that the length is what separates two and three from the gore for gore sake presentation of the attention grabbing T1 but other movies have managed to Dumore story world building in character wise with less. If I may be devils advocate, I would say while there’s enough running time in the Second two films for a whole fourth film of its own. I know I wouldn’t be able to strike the right balance of story and pay off to make Episodes two or three any shorter.
I think Terrifier three is a perfect addition to your alternative Christmas viewing.
Jumping back to the bloodless slashers of the 80s and the hyperbole laden exposes that went out of their way to damn them. The Terrifier series is most definitely the reality of those accusations. in retrospect, it would be often written that The ultraviolence that lined video store horror sections in the 80s were a direct response to Reagan Bush era oppression. If this is the case, Terrifier three is most certainly the appropriate response to the Real life evil clowns that are preparing to govern us now.
