**while generally in MMM I play it pretty fast and loose with spoilers because this film is only released yesterday I try to keep it close to the vest which probably makes this mess more confusing, but you won’t know anything you don’t wanna know**

Evil dead rise is great. It’s gory and intense, but takes enough time to let you get to know the characters before their physical form is absolutely destroyed. With the exception of Army of darkness this film feels like a mixture of everything that’s gone before. The cringe worthy body trauma of the first, the frenetic, pacing and editing of the second and the dark tone and look Of 2013. There were great callbacks to other films in the series, both overt and slightly more subtle. There’s also a lot of nods to other horror classics. This movie also adds some new wrinkles to the Deadite mythology by not changing anything, but leaning into elements that were previously only implied.

Lee Cronin, is a star in the making, and I can’t wait to see what he does next! He understands what made the series successful and blended it into a super spooky body fluid, soaked goulash. Lee manages to add some relatable text to the proceedings that helps amp up the meanness, but it doesn’t cross over into the edge lord glee of recent fan, favorites, light the sadness or the Terrifier films. in it’s cruelness we sympathize for our heroes not relish in their pain.

The cast is great from top to bottom. These are real people who are in a matter of seconds pivot from the every day horrors of 2023 to an ancient death trap of evil design. 

Evil dead rise was a terrific theater experience, but may even work better in the comfort of your own home with the volume turned up in the lights, turned out. However, you view it. Definitely see it as long as soon as you’re able, because this movie is Fucking Rad! It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if it took another 10 years to get another film in the series. If they keep giving me this quality, I’ll keep waiting.
