first cut
I have tempered expectations because I feel like I heard a lot of people are really upset about this. For some reason I’m coming in with a clean slate I think I read somewhere there was a another movie name this in 1987. And maybe a book before that.

The Good… The Bad …and the Spooky
The good
There is a interesting exchange at a bar in the mansion that’s small and simple, but I’m a sucker for that Sort of back-and-forth
The chains seem way, heavier less like a super natural thing in more light a solid thing of this world
One thing I am learning while doing this project this year is that filmmakers have definitely weaponization social awkwardness. Though it was used as a gag in this what is more awkward than having very loud sexy times and then walking out to find your roommate just hanging out. Again, it was used as a joke, but that’s a bit brilliant in itself because you may not realize you’re already on the wrong foot
Odessa A'zion is great I hope she gets a-lot or parts and a lot of money
They go big with the “powers” I like that
I like this pin head! You could actually look at this as a direct sequel from the second one OG pinhead is destroyed, and then they go get a new pinhead.
Big fan of the trap/fortress concept
I do like the end in regards to the “choice“
I also like the very HP Lovecraft by way of clash Barker and Grant Morrison cenobite construction sequel bait ending as well
The bad
This movie Is way dark
Why would you touch a weird looking piece of art in somebody else’s house?
I know Cats in horror movies are supposed to be stupid, but Billy has taken this trope a step too far
Everyone in this movie is as dumb as a box hammers
This movie is sooo dark! Some one turn on the lights
I’m not sure I’m buying average four of 20 something’s would enter a strangers “house” let alone wander around in it
I saw that twist coming from mikes away
Bad guy monologue pealing everything no thank you (i’m looking at you, David Goya)
That configuration impalement was… so…So fake… He ran into that thing. It was like a bad ref bump.
They have astonishingly Managed to dumb down and over complicate the mythology at the same time I salute them for that victory of brain, melting, contrivance and overthinking
The spooky
The first cenobite we see the outline of coming out of the shadows is great
I was going to write something about “”this woman is suddenly a phenomenal detective” then I realized the evil is pushing her it wants to be found,
And At least in the shadow, some of these cenobites remind me of silent hill or Grants Morrison villains. Which is obviously at least, pulling from the same cultures at most influenced by so we’ve really gone full circle in the sense where the influenced our influencing the new version of what they were influenced by….

The Death Rattle
I really wish they could get this series right? I get that it’s not easy or not traditional, but they somehow can’t stick the landing sure summer better than others. I wish you could squish all the good ideas from the lesser ones and make a really good one.
