Breaking news: G1 32 participants

* Editors Note: There’s going to be a lot of wrestling stuff this weekend part because I fell behind on my wrestling in part because there’s a lot going on. There’s plenty of stuff for  Non- wrestling fans on the horizon! 

* editors note 2: Anyone who’s read three lines of this knows that I don’t have an editor I can’t spell I have no idea of grammer (or grandpa) but I just like saying “ editors note“

I’ll be honest I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t get something that I wasn’t promised, So in that aspect I am a pretty typical ungrateful wrestling nerd right now

Three brackets of seven? Why mess with a good thing? 

Uncle Dave also brought up a good point. 

I’m paraphrasing but now one of the six people in your block is going to be Yano or Yujiro or even EVIL or

KENTA Who have matches full of shenanigans and that sort of sports entertainment nonsense is not my jam. It will let people go all out and not worry about getting effed up, but that  is the same built-in mechanic is having “ nights off guys” . They’re obviously trying to do something cool for the 50th anniversary but I don’t think this was the best move.

G1 Climax 32 will begin on July 16 and will finish up at Ryogoku Sumo Hall on August 18, where one man will earn a spot in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom.

Who I’m Excited about:

David Finlay: Before the pandemic Dave was killing it and in TNA strong in most recently #AEW he’s looked awesome. There’s a lot of cool stories that have kind of been dangling including his rivalry with Jay White. 

El Phantasmo: 

He is not gonna win very much. But he’s a phenomenal versatile worker who in the right block they’ll be a bunch of new great fresh matches and a couple dirty matches! It would be super cool to see what Phantasmo osprey looks like in 2022! 

“Filthy” Tom Lawlor: 

I love this fucking guy 100% fresh and new matches I think the Japanese fans are going to love him. 

 Who I’m not excited about:

KENTA

Yujiro Takahashi

Bad Luck Fale

There is no reason for Yujiro To be in this at all . AT ALLLL He takes the pin in every MultiMan match his record in the last three ones and king of new Japan have been abyssal. Having a minute just does not make a shred of sense. I guess he has recently been in open wait six Man champ but who cares. Zero entry matches he is lost to almost everyone in the tournament no reason for him to be there.

I don’t care about any of these bullet club style shenanigans! HATE IT!! It has no place in the G1. 

Lance Archer:

I reserve the right for Lance to make me a fan again.  Who is in Ring stuff is always great but… i’d love to see a rematch of his opening round G1 29(?) Houston match with osprey. 

But there just aren’t that many intriguing matchups. He’s been treated like a mid car guy and it seems like A very safe very an uninteresting AEW representative. 

I would man it’s possible that I may just be crabby because I was hoping for Daniels and Moxley.. or even maybe a Kingston.. so maybe I’m taking it out on him.. i’m sure all of his matches will be great or at least really good but I think it’s the politics of it that’s irritating me. This is supposed to be the best of new Japan and a mid card murder hawk sticks out like a sore thumb. 

So after writing it out (it’s my therapy it’s my thought process)

I am sort of excited he’s in it because of some of his match ups and I am a fan but the politics of it just seem like an afterthought.

It’s worth mentioning I’m alone in this because he got the biggest pop from the Japanese crowd! 

Who I would’ve liked:

Mox:

There’s something different about him in Japan and there are just a lot of intriguing matches we haven’t got tell yet and it seems like he’s just better in Japan or in a new Japan ring even is anywhere else.

Kyle O’Reilly:

I want Kyle in Japan.  I want it!  I want it! I want it! I want it! I want it! It’s like being able to have a younger Brian Danielson! 

The King: 

Every couple years they drop him, because of his age because of a bunch of things. But his last performance was amazing. He had incredible matches with Kota Ibushi and an intriguing match up with Taichi. Eventually he’s going to slow down but as someone who’s been watching him for 20 years I just don’t really see it yet. The 70 blocks would’ve been perfect. You probably would’ve had five great matches out of him. Big oversight.

The American fucking dragon:

I feel so close to my dream of having Brian Danielson in the G1 climax I can fucking taste it!!! The proximity of my dream to reality is clouding both my normal  G1 excitement and by normal functioning human brain which stops me from not being disappointed by entertainment minions not delivering things they never promised me in the first place.

The American Dragon is better than ever and I’d love to see him versus Okada versus Tana versus Will versus Zack a fucking saber Jr!!! 

Arrrrrggggggggrrgggggggg 

I’ll admit it I’m disappointed.. Not new Japan’s fault not aeW’s fault. 

But iam.

Everyone else:

This is still the best roster in all of wrestling rosters right now it’s not that I’m not excited to see will or okda. I’ll be more excited once I see the brackets!

So in closing: 

Am I not excited for the G1? I’m always excited for it but I had worked myself into a suit brother!

Forbidden door teamed with the juicy best of the super juniors bracket had me super excited over the prospect of a star studded international G1 climax tournament. 

There are some super cool things in this bracket I was really hoping filthy Tom  would be in it and said wish was granted. 

If you’ve never seen the G1 you should order new Japan world and check it out every year this is the best wrestling the best matches much like indie guys in PWG the new Japan roster and any lucky outsiders kick it to a different super gear.
