The Good… The Bad …and the Spooky

The Good

It’s been a while since Ive seen a movie that is this intense! For realz! I would not call this violence more more white or brutal series of physical trauma! The Effects are very, very good. The scary part is the relentless mental trauma makes the violent stuff look weak and the violence is STRONG!

Performances are great all across the board!

The Bad:

It’s a pretty heavy handed metaphor, that while it’s handled perfectly more often than not when it falls it falls with a thud. A few times the film unfortunately  steps over the line into Blum house clichΓ©, and worn out horror tropes.  Without those indiscretions, this may have rivaled the exorcist.

It’s worth mentioning this is not for everyone. Some of the contact is rough. There are some extremely subtle elements that call out to post traumatic stress and addiction that may just unwatchable for some.

The Spooky:

5 seconds after anyone says “Talk to me”

The Death Rattle

If you were programming a double feature called “ in common cinematic failures”

This would be a good double feature with “it follows” .  Both live and die on a simple metaphor constantly walking a moment to moment balance between brilliance and Boring.

I can’t think of very many movies that you can screen along side “talk to me”  It’s just fucking mentally relentless. A machine that makes jump scares and triggers bab memories. Anyone who suffers inside their own brain could see so many of their own small coping habits in these characters that the viewing experience might more then unpleasant. This is the opposite of every other horror movie that I’ve seen in the last few years. There are so many layers of miss direction that you may not realize what you are seeing until after the end credits role.

One of the best I’ve seen while doing this project and for one of the best I’ve seen this year.
