Song of the week: Depeche Mode’s ghost again

 Song of the Week!

Ghost again

This is the Depeche Mode song I’ve been waiting for since violator.

The lyrics to the music the video, everything about it speaks to me .

The slight vocal tempo and pitch change in the second verse shows the maturity that only comes with years of songwriting confidence.

The lyrics and melody perfectly walks the balance beam between darkness and night, morbid concepts and blind optimism.

In a lot of ways, this was a slam dunk for me.

I’m far from an expert on his work, but I’ve always loved the imagery of Bergman’s seventh seal. I love chess. I love Depeche Mode. I love this song.

Ghost again is a rare musical animal, threading the needle between pop ear worm, and thoughtful lyrical diary entry.

The other, uncle Dave’s performance is masterful. Soulful and Sexy with a appropriate amount of modesty that’s needed to illustrate the huge absolute concept. Tomorrow’s not promised our only commonality is our mortality.

I think my favorite part is that it holds a place in two parts of the Synth Icons play book. It’s as Raw and Direct as stuff like “never let me down again” or policy of truth, but as pretty and soft-spoken as something like “but not tonight”

It’s an incredible song.
