Lucky 13 : slaughterhouse rock
Lucky 13 is… Well 13 thoughts. 13 random disembodied out of context thoughts about any old media I run across
If any of these mad man’s mutterings make you watch or not watch subject of these ramblings you’re welcome and if they don’t… umm welcome?
- I was totally here for every little bit of the opening credit sequence. The visuals the music I love it.
- This film has a Amazing tracking shot through a burger joint that features A) slow motion burger delivery B) A man using his french fry to poke holes in cigarette rings C) five porno mustaches D) The single greatest 80s mullet ever committed to VHS E) all wile an awesome devo song plays
- Under different circumstances our cast would be a fairly normal bunch of horror movie central casting casualties, but these guys are likable.
The acting is inconsistent but everyone’s likable and that goes a long way. It’s weird that that’s such a rare thing in horror movies. There is a professor/Expert character that really sticks out among the cast. It’s not that she’s a bad actress she just seems like she’s in a different movie. - The The dialogue and it’s delivery is really try hard. At that to the four mentioned inconsistent acting and it occasionally slips into irritating! If you just listen to this movie without watching it you would think it came out in the late 90s, somehow prophesies is the Tarantino and Smith rip offs in its style! It’s like it’s ripping off stuff that hasn’t happened yet! That aside the charming characters not only make the medicine go down easier… and hack sometimes it’s actually pretty funny.
- This movie came out in 1988 but the film quality (even with this exemplary Vinegar Syndrome transfer) looks like it’s from 1980.. that’s not a bad thing I like an 1980!
- The music and The Devo songs are pretty lit. The end credits has an incredible song performed by Devo and Toni Basil!! Check it out
- There are some nightmare on elm street style dream sequences in this movie that out dream sequence some of the nightmare on elm street dream sequences!! Even the crazy ones that looks like bargain basement close encounters are so freaking ridiculous it’s awesome!
- There is some actually effective jump scares. Another rarity of 80s supernatural slashers. in both the dream stuff and the humor i’d be surprised if this wasn’t highly inspired by American werewolf in London! There’s even a bunch of dead advice giving friends. * Holy shit I’ve been looking at the VHS cover of this movie for years and it just occurred to me that the cover image looks like David Neither from American werewolf in London!
- At exactly 45:05 Toni Basil shows up and with her this film hits another level of ludicrous!!
- There is an out and out supernatural sexual assault just after the halfway point that seems completely out of place … yuck
- Toni Basil performs a spell to help our main character astral project… this spell is basically entails the amazing one hit wonder do we need interpretive dance as we cut back-and-forth between sed dance and a montage of all the past Nihtmare sequences… it’s… it’s something.
- There is some phenomenal gore in this movie. The effects as a whole are pretty rad! Even stuff that doesn’t work exactly how they didn’t want it to is Super charming!
- The climax has a lot going on but it’s budget and some editing/ pacing issues ham hocked it a bit. On paper this was A pulse pounding climax but as it sits it was just sort of anticlimactic.
