Alex Burgess: Benedick Blythe

“ …nightmares seem to thrive there”

Some wonky CGI in the exposition dump. But honestly I think it adds to the “dream world“ sentiment

“1916 Wych cross England.”

This, flushing out of certain elements of the comic is just what the doctor ordered.

Charles Dance is just spooky and great in the last of A classic breed of actor! His Roderick Buhrgess is pitch perfect!

“Germany “

Holbrook is already amazing as the corinthian. In just a few moments of dialogue and exposition with Morpheus we see his mission statement his

Cowardly and bully ways basically everything that makes a good nightmare.

“ The summoning”

If I’m remembering properly the comic opened with Sandman already captured and bound. Seeing his actual abduction is pretty neat.

This summoning and capture is  A bit him or film and a bit Hellraiser!

The sleeping sickness is terrifying. Some mythical stuff in any sort of “pandemic” affection is super triggering to me.

“ advice  from nightmare”

The meeting between Corinthian and Buhrgess is classic mythic GAMIN! Faustian two chess players on a full press but hiding all their pieces! Holbrook performance has a pleasant amount of Max cady

“ more deadly than the male”

Ethel Cripps .appears on the scene. She is in or  starting a relationship with  Burgess.. what do young Burgess is Crushing at jump street!  It may not be a sexual crush but he falls instantly for someone protecting him or looking out for  him.

“Paul”

I like this quiet little scene between Paul and Alex. A book recommendation is so much more. The actors do you such a good job emote in an instant friendship in sexual tension.

“Ethel Cripps.. Babies and escapes”

Burgess orders Ethel to get rid of their unborn child instead she steals a bunch of dreams gear and hits the road. I think this important event is a bit understated and undercooked.

Jessamy’s assault”

I’ve never been more invested in the safty of a CGI bird! This is a great scene!

“Alex Burgess Makes a liberating mistake”

A Scuffle changes the course of young Alex‘s life but the scene doesn’t really work.

What should be powerful is a bit silly.

“Paul and Alex visit dream twice”

Once shortly after the death of his father and once when he’s an old man Alex and Paul visit Sandman to negotiate his potential Release mercy. They get the silent treatment from the king of dreams.

“Cripps + 1”

We visit cripps and baby cribs. There’s something super sinister about the implication of her using Morpheus gear for her own gain.

This is another great performance.

“Escape!!”

Dream buts loose and it is awesome!!

Corinthian now”

We get to see what our terrifying Nihtmare is up to and it’s terrifying!

This character perfectly illustrates the similarities between Neil Gaiman and Clive Barker! Scary charismatic and terrifying!

“ homecoming”

We get the a perfect concise declaration of the mission statement of this television show.  So smooth so elegant.

Closing thoughts

There was a few minute span in this that didn’t really work for me, they could’ve messed up burgesses trip and fall and thought it be comical but at least that would’ve been something it was really AA emotionally awkward scean. The scene where Apple store Morpheus T.S. was even less interesting, at least the old man’s death had a unintentional Awkwardness, This was just like a scene out of Tod Browning’s Dracula. People looking out a window describing to you individual medium generally isn’t the best delivery delivery method… especially when you know YOU CAN SHOW IT!!

Guy at window: by God it’s a giant wolf!

People in room: what!

Guy: a wolf!!

People in room (no I’m looking out window) Jim dandy A wolf

You at home watching and pouting: I wanna see the wolf *sob*

But no honesty those are small complaints versus how happy I am of this faithful adaption everything different was in service to the format and pacing of a television show.

I am a giant fan of Neil And telling you I think this book is incredible it’s probably the least unique thing I’ll ever inpart on you.

So far so awesome!

Can’t wait for more!!
